Stage 1: Purpose and Navigation
1. Learn to initiate a request by tapping one card – Function
2. Make a choice between two cards – Can he/she discriminate?
3. START HERE: Learn to make a choice using more than two cards
4. Learn to initiate a request from the choices
5. Navigates into an album to access a desired choice
Stage 2: Build Vocabulary
6. Learn to tap on a card to initiate comments, e.g. MODEL comments, e.g. Look there’s dad! That’s blue, We are going (place).
7. Extend vocabulary for initiating requests and comments.
8. Gradually build vocabulary exploring album by album, i.e. choose an album for a particular setting, model and learn its vocabulary for functional activities (e.g. requesting for a spade at the beach).
Stage 3: Sentence Making
9. Expand sentence making by introducing attributes, e.g. colour, shapes
10. Makes a sentence using the sentence bar of simple sentence starters
Stage 4: Learn to type and spell – LITERACY FOCUS
11. Learn to spell using the search bar Search (Optional: to use drag and drop by turning off ’One tap sentence bar.’
Stage 5: Encourage conversation
12. Learn to answer and asking questions. MODEL – If possible, use own device to model answering questions. E.g ‘See what?’ ‘Do what?’ ‘Play who?’ ‘Weekend what?’
13. Learn to initiate a conversation.E.g. How are you today? What did you do today?
Stage 6: Further build, MODEL & Generalisation
14. Increase usage of the app for the individual and yourself (Use two devices)
15. Generalise communication across a range of people around the individual and in different settings
